One Love Cafe Launch
Friday July 11, 2014
I believe I saw the flyer for this on facebook on the Thursday before the event. So I told Lexxi then she told Minkah and Meikle; the four of us made up the crew for the night. The summer raving continued 😀
Lexxi and I arrived an hour after the start of the event at about 8:30 pm (we had poor Minkah alone waiting on us) so when we got there she said our friend Sheeda & her bf Lij were there, so we hailed them and went to our first order of business, food.
Lexxi and I both purchased smoked marlin sandwiches and Meikle bought a Ride Natty Ride shake. We left Minkah holding our seats near the stage, and after waiting for our goodies we returned to our seats. Lexxi gave Minkah a piece of her sandwich and I gave Meikle. It was delicious! and huge, definitely worth the $750JAD.
The show was going well, it seemed to have started long before we arrived, very un-Jamaican of them. The next act was Sevana Siren, an up coming artist, she sang a cover of Bob Marley’s ‘Is this love’ and then gave a preview of her soon to be released single ‘A bit too shy’ I love her voice, I’ve been a fan since I saw her perform at Protoje’s last Live from Kingston concert. My friends and I gave her the cheers and the screaming she deserved, she did a wonderful acoustic performance with one guitarist. There were plenty performers and eventually we saw who we were there to see, No-Maddz. They had a lively performance as usual making us want to get up and dance, as old SAHS drummers (St. Andrew High School for Girls) we had to partake in the festivities by singing along with our imaginary maracas, sticks and graters. I enjoyed the performance thoroughly and being there with Lexxi, Minkah and Meikle made it even better.
After that we decided we could lose our seats so we all went to the counter to get shakes, seeing as Lexxi and I bought sandwiches buying $500 worth of shakes would be very sticky so Minkah, Lexxi and I decided to put together and buy a Mellow Mood shake with spirlina in it. We chilled at the counter area for a while sharing our shake and vibe-zing to the music.
We finished our shake then went to one of the seating areas and chilled, talking and listening to the music. When we heard the sound system shut off we knew it was time to go, so Minkah called her mom to see how far she was, and she wasn’t very far. So not too long after the call she arrived, they were going in Meikle’s direction so he got a drop home. We said our goodbyes and Lexxi called her dad to pick us up, we chilled with Sheeda and Lij near the entrance until he arrived. The night was a good one, we’d definitely have to visit the cafe again.
