One Coco: D’Havia Designs

I have a beach problem, to me it’s not really a problem, but here’s the real problem: for the beach you need swimsuits, I always want new ones. As a girl after my mom, I like getting new clothes, so I’d followed a lot of Jamaican designers over my years of being on Instagram. Today, I want to introduce you to D’HAVIA Designs, her XO Swimsuit is the newest addition to my Coco Basket.

I saw this swimsuit on the D’HAVIA Instagram page months ago, in the colour red, and it looked so good I just had to have it. Seeing that I’m on a budget, I took my time and saved for it; then the day came when I ordered it, in one of my favourite colours, Turquoise.

It was months after I purchased it that I got a chance to wear it, but eventually I got to the beach, and I was pleased. It came in a clear bag that was super useful; at the beach I placed the wet bikini back into the bag for convenient carrying.

Can you tell this is my favourite colour? I’ve had my beach cover-up for over a year, it is by Momo Penelli, and I had to get that colour. This swimsuit is a little sexy one and I like it, I didn’t expect the tube top to be that small but I don’t really mind. What drew me to it was the eyelets with the lace on the tube top and the sides of the bikini. Another point that drew me to it was that the bottom was high-waist and I had no bikinis like that.

I really like this swimsuit, I felt great in it, and it looked great on me. The piece was sewn very well, and I liked the D’HAVIA emblem attached to it, that showed me her work is well branded. A point to note: When putting it on for the first time, you may need help lacing up the sides of the bikini bottom. I’ll have to rate it a 3.5/5, because there is an inconvenience, after the beach I’d left my swimsuit to dry and I saw that rust began to form around all the eyelets and stain the fabric in that area. I didn’t expect that to happen, and I was upset because I love the swimsuit. It’s still tarnished right now but I will try a white vinegar trick. Check out her social media pages nonetheless because she has a plethora of designs to chose from.

One Coco: Quaint By GSC

Today I have another addition to the Coco Basket, it is a white Royal Dawta Crossbody Bag from Quaint by GSC. I’m not going around this, I love this brand, you’re gonna keep seeing it on my site. Quaint by GSC is an Afrocentric brand; the goods include bags, clothes, swimsuits, and hats, with a touch of African print. Gabrielle Clarke keeps coming up with beautiful innovative designs, and they just take up a little space in my heart. When she had just released the crossbody bags, I knew I had to have one. For this Coco, I asked my mom for it as a birthday gift, and my wish was granted.

Quaint by GSC, Afro wear, African print, Kente cloth, Bags, Cross body bag, handmade, in Jamaica, 876Lover,

It wasn’t a surprise because I wanted to choose the design but when I got it on my birthday I was elated. I was getting ready to head out to my birthday dinner when mom came home and delivered it to me. I have moods, and when I picked my colour scheme I was feeling white, and what better to go with white than gold? I must admit, white is one of my favourite colours, especially for accent pieces. To me, it gives an air of fanciness; from time to time I’ll polish my fingernails and toenails white, it makes me feel “boujee”.

The bag was bigger than I thought it was gonna be, and for that I was happy; I’m a woman that carries her life in her handbag, so to have a big casual bag is great. The stitching and seams are very neat. I had one problem with the bag, the lining inside is green…I was very confused when I opened it, and when it’s closed you see a hint of the green at the sides. I assumed it was to be unique, for a pop of colour but personally I would have preferred it to be white, it would have a neater look to me. Plus, I don’t like green, that shade specifically. So, I’ll be rating this a 4.5/5, would buy again… in all the colours.

One Coco: Ngozi

Ngozi Sweet Blessings isn’t new to my blog but her products have grown dear to my heart. This purchase was a Christmas gift for my little sister, a scented candle was on her wish list, and I got her this one. I’m waving the buy Jamaican build Jamaica banner into 2018.

Ngozi was an independent vendor at the New Wave Celebrity Closet; this was a thrift-shop event that sold clothes previously owned by celebrity and media personalities. I actually bought 3 articles of clothing, for barely anything, it was a good time. I bought the candle in the scent Tangerine Peach because my sis had a liking to fruity scented things.

I believe this is the smallest size candle they sell. I’m not gonna rate this product because it’s not mine but my sister likes it, she burns it all the time.

Check out Ngozi on Instagram and Facebook @NgoziSweetBlessings to see more of what they have to offer, and to purchase.

One Coco: Bayspring

Today I have the third, and final, item I bought at A Jamaican Made Christmas; it is a Bayspring Coffee Scrub with peppermint. I hope y’all don’t get tired of me and the coffee scrubs… I doubt anyone could get tired of coffee scrubs though, they smell so divine. I try not to drink too much coffee, and what better way to get a coffee fix? I get to smell it, and get soft skin, all at the same time. This is the third coffee scrub I’ve bought in 2017; and I’m proud to say they were all from Jamaican brands. I’ve tried a coffee sugar scrub from Morgan’s Creek, and a dry coffee & oatmeal scrub from I Love Sweetness.

I love coffee, cocoa, and vanilla scented products; and since coffee scrubs have such good benefits for the skin, I reach for that when purchasing body scrubs. I have other body scrubs that I want to try but I’ll get to them eventually; to keep within my budget and to not be wasteful I only purchase a new scrub once the one I have is finished. The Bayspring coffee scrub I chose is different because it has peppermint oil in it. This is the newest addition to my Coco basket.

Bayspring, Bayspring coffee scrub, with peppermint, coffee scrub, in Jamaica, Jamaican Made, buy Jamaican Build Jamaica, 876Lover, One coco,

I like to use the coffee scrub before I shave my legs, just to get off any excess dead skin cells. I also use it on any random day, using a body scrub is like scrubbing all your stress and troubles away, it leaves my skin feeling extra soft, and with a hint of freshly brewed coffee. The peppermint oil gives a slight tingle, along with its pleasant fragrance; if you don’t like the scent of peppermint (that’s wild) I wouldn’t get this one because it is strong enough for you to notice it.

I give it a 4/5 rating: the packaging is nice, the product itself is great, I love how abrasive this scrub is but on the downside I think it leaves too much oil after rinsing. I would recommend you give this scrub a try.

Make enquiries to and follow @Bayspring on Instagram & BayspringSoap on Facebook.

One Coco: Sen Say

Today I’m telling you about Sen Say Soy Candles; this is the second addition to the basket from A Jamaican Made Christmas. I didn’t buy a candle though, I bought their Aroma Beads. You place them in your drawers (teehee) to keep your clothes smelling nice. The brand Sen Say promotes recycling and keeping the environment healthy; and as I said they previously, they make scented soy candles. The candles last longer, they burn cleaner- leaving no toxins or pollutants in the air- and they’re made of soybean, which is a renewable source.

I was waltzing through the crowd looking for things to buy, and I stumbled upon the Sen Say booth. I was intrigued by a vanilla and coffee scented candle but I had so many similar scents, I left it. I smelt the aroma beads though, and had to get it, it was cheap and smelt so good; I didn’t have anything like this scent in my arsenal. I had to ask the owner about the scent, it was one of her specialties, she said it was a scent she had designed for her soft rose soy candle. So, the newest addition to the (Jamaican Brand) Coco basket is Aroma Beads by Sen Say.

One Coco: Miss Dutchie

Hey! I know it’s been a while since I updated the basket but I went to an event called A Jamaican Made Christmas- this is an annual 2-day pop-up arcade with only Jamaican brands- and got a few things; I believe this is my third year going.  I’ll be doing separate posts for each item, today we’re adding a Miss Dutchie Scotch Bonnet Pepper Jelly to the basket.

I made it a task to walk around and taste all the free samples I could, don’t judge, who doesn’t love food? At Miss Dutchie’s booth they had Scotch Bonnet Pepper Jerk Seasoning, Scotch Bonnet Pepper Jackfruit Chutney, and the one I sampled, Scotch Bonnet Pepper Jelly. I didn’t want to eat the jerk seasoning on crackers and I don’t like jackfruit; so, I was left with one option, the jelly. I had a taste on a cracker and it was so yummy I bought one right away. At first you taste the sweetness from the jelly then a burst of heat follows, tickling your taste buds.

Over the past couple of months I have been trying out some new sauces from my local supermarket but I’ve noticed a trend, I tend to stick to any product that has some sweetness in it. I like sweet things in general, I prefer that to tangy or savory flavours; so, you’ll catch me having sweet and sour, or sweet and spicy. I find this jelly is perfect so far, I’ve used it on sandwiches and toast; after tasting the pepper, the heat subsides after a while. If you’re not a pepper person, this product can work for you, just use it sparingly.

I give it a 4.9/5 rating: the consistency is nice, the balance of sweetness and spice is perfect, the price is reasonable, the label is very chic and trendy, but I’d have liked to see a refrigerate note on the label. I would definitely buy again, give it a try if you see it on your supermarket shelves.

One Coco: Quaint by GSC

In all honesty I was hesitant to buy a bag from Quaint by GSC because I felt like I needed something more heavy duty. The more I saw the products of Gabrielle Clarke pop up on my Instagram feed, the more my worries faded. Her products were just too beautiful to ignore, the sewing looked immaculate, and the colours schemes I had seen just made a part of my brain happy. And so I gave in… I purchased a Mini Quaint Afrocentric Backpack.

I had some question about the size and the colours she had to offer; so one lovely Friday afternoon I sent her a DM on Instagram. I initially wanted a bronze backpack but that colour was out of stock. I gave her an A+ for great customer service because I had a million questions, especially when it came to choosing the print and colour, she answered each accordingly. Then I eventually decided what I wanted, I picked the pewter leatherette and an orange and black splatter pattern on a cream backdrop with hints of green. She asked for my contact information and finalized the transaction by emailing me the invoice. I paid a deposit and the process was underway.

Then I waited… Day in day out I checked the Quaint IG story hoping it would be ready earlier than the slated 7 days.  The days passed by quickly, and soon my new obsession was in my arms.

I give it a 4.75 out of 5 star rating. I have two negatives, the flap for the small section of the bag could be a little bigger, and the lining for the inside of the bag is too large, so it bunches up a bit at the bottom.

Otherwise, I am quite pleased, the sewing is neat, you couldn’t tell this is handmade. The mini is the perfect size for me, it holds my iPad and a ton of things I decide I need to carry everywhere I go (shrugs). I adore the side pouches, it fits my small umbrella and a normal sized plastic drink bottle. I have been wearing the bag everywhere since the night I got it.

One Coco: Momo Penelli

Guys! Momo Penelli had a mini blow out sale, she had necklaces and two different sized earrings on sale. So you know yah girl had to run in on it. I love Monique’s goods but I’m on that tight budget so I will not be out there shopping every single day. I must admit I am a sucker for sales, so when I saw it I just supported. I bought a medium sized earring for myself, and a large one for my mom. Please people that know my mom, don’t go around announcing it, I’ll be giving it to her in about a week, on her birthday. Take a look at the pretty prints I selected though.

One Coco: Sugarplum Box

Hey everyone, you’d never guess what happened… I won this box! This Coco was a surprise. I had entered a competition I saw on the Sugarplum Box Instagram page, it was a BLK/OPL (Black Opal) makeup giveaway. I’m subscribed to the Sugarplum Box website, so at the time the instructions could be found in the most recent newsletter. What I didn’t notice though, was that Marsha (Sugarplum CEO) decided to add a Springtime themed box into the giveaway. It was clearly stated in the email but I don’t know how I’d missed that detail.

Some time had passed and the giveaway winner was chosen on Instagram over a live stream by Sugarplum Box. It was done via a website that picks winners randomly, and I was the lucky participant 🙂 Then I gleefully waited until the prize was ready for pickup. I’m not gonna lie, I may be a slight makeup junkie but I try to keep my purchasing minimal. So I was very happy to receive two BLK/OPL cream to powder foundations, two matte foundation powders, and a lipstick. The shades of the products varied but I’ve put them all to good use so far.

In the Ultra Matte Foundation Powders I got the shades Medium Light and Deep. While in the Pore Perfecting Powder Foundations (cream to powder) I received the shades Amber and Heavenly Honey. The gorgeous pink lipstick is in the colour Haute; I kid you not this lipstick makes me feel like a Barbie doll. Take a look below to see what was in the Springtime Sugarplum Box.

One Coco: I Love Sweetness

This Coco has satiated my coffee problem… for now. I love coffee scented products, and the next best thing to that, coffee scrubs (Exfoliation is key.) My last scrub finished so I’m trying a new one, a dry coffee scrub from I Love Sweetness.

I found out about I Love Sweetness from a “Jamaican brand thread” by  @tonimacandcheese on Twitter. The idea of the dry scrub was brilliant to me, a lot of scrubs are mixed with oils and other products which may not be suited for everyone’s skin. That is one of the reasons I used my last scrub on my body only, and not on my face. I Love Sweetness has different flavours but I chose the coffee and oatmeal blend.CocoSweetness1
